Day before Singapore

Singapore tomorrow

It wasn’t easy getting out of bed this morning after the late night. I bounced out to the Cabaret Lounge for the lecture and used the time to catch up on computer related work. I got an email reply from the retinal specialist I have seen for 14 years telling me that there is a new MD at KPWH for this so I wrote for that appointment with the new woman. He has been a great comfort and an excellent, compassionate clinician all these years and I find myself grieving the loss of his care. But life goes on and this new MD presents new opportunities.
Hinduism: there are so many gods and so many complex relationships that it’s hard to recall anything other than the top layer. The caste system is a hereditary one, not a socioeconomic system. And the discussion of the various ascetics was eye opening.
We were pathetic!
At the morning trivia anyway. But the winning team only had 3 more points than we did so I suppose we should be glad. Many team members are leaving tomorrow so there will be some regrouping of teams after Singapore. We did ok in the afternoon but not enough to beat the next highest team.
Lunch
I ran to the Panorama Lounge for a quick salad. But Chuck at trivia had mentioned getting a hot dog and so I succumbed and got a Bratwurst and took it to the room where I gobbled it down sans bun but with mustard, onions and relish. Mmmm what a treat. Now I’ll feel guilty all day! Ed joined me briefly.
Ooops!
I was planning on auditing the computer class on making movies with moviemaker since I had taken it once but no one showed up for that particular class. However, a lady was there who wanted another one so Tim accommodated her which I thought was a terrific adaptation to his schedule.
Singapore: Fabulously wealthy mini-state
This is such an interesting place and the speaker took us through the long history of this location in the world and how it came to be what it is today. Essentially there is one outstanding man who has shaped all this: Lee Kwon Yew who was known as Harry Lee when he was at university in England. The cleanliness, and much other that seems so striking about Singapore can be attributed to him. But there are lots of “don’t s” and there are tee shirts everywhere that recount these things.
Dinner: we had some warm goodbyes to our Aussies. We will sincerely miss them; what a great time we had with them all.
Victor Michael: this young man was rehearsing in the Pacific Lounge before trivia in the afternoon and he has such a lovely voice. He sings all kinds of genre so no one is bored.
Singapore: I will not be posting about our day in Singapore.
